If you’re looking for a very Brooklyn way to ring in the New Year, it might be worth bundling up and heading out to Grand Army Plaza, with festivities leading up to midnight. Starting at 11:00pm, catch some live entertainment and warm up with hot chocolate and apple cider while you wait for the show. Prospect Park suggests watching from anywhere in Grand Army Plaza, inside the Park on the West Drive, and along Prospect Park West between Grand Army Plaza and 9th Street.

You might also be able to see the fireworks from a South Slope rooftop – anyone have any luck with that? Which streets have the best view?

Or, if you’re too antsy to just hang around and wait for the show, register for Prospect Park’s only night race, the New Year’s Eve 5K Fun Run. Sponsored by New York Road Runners and Skechers, the event begins at the 9th Street entrance at 11:15pm (packet pick-up begins at 10:15). The first 100 registrants will win a gift from Skechers, and the first 300 registrants will get fleece hats. Skechers shoe certificates will be given to first male and female finisher and last male and female finisher. Also, glow necklaces are available to all. Everybody wins! Walkers, runners, and families welcome.

Registration is $30 though December 30, and $40 on race day. Register online here, or contact balbos@aol.com for more information.
