Tragedy struck in Brooklyn on Monday night, resulting in a woman fighting for her life and a man losing his in two separate incidents.
In Borough Park, 46-year-old Mohammed Hossain of Brooklyn was fatally struck by consecutive hit-and-run drivers, marking the second such occurrence in two weeks.
While crossing 37th Street, Hossain was initially hit by a southbound car on Fort Hamilton Parkway, causing him to fall to the ground.
In a devastating turn of events, a second car collided with him, and despite immediate response, Hossain was pronounced dead at the scene. Both drivers fled, adding to the complexity of the investigation.
The alarming trend continued in Bed-Stuy, where Yvonne Sandiford met a similar fate the previous week, falling victim to back-to-back hit-and-run drivers.
Transportation Alternatives Executive Director Danny Harris emphasized the urgent need for accountability for such incidents.
In Dyker Heights, a 72-year-old woman was struck by a southbound truck while crossing 64th Street at 11th Avenue around 9:30 p.m.
The truck, attempting a left turn onto 64th Street, collided with the woman, leading to critical injuries. Promptly rushed to the hospital, the woman’s condition remains precarious, while the 40-year-old truck driver cooperated with authorities on the scene.
As of Tuesday, no arrests have been made, and the police investigation into these heartbreaking incidents continues.
