Calling all artists! The Park Slope Fifth Avenue Business Improvement District, which covers the area between Dean and 18th Streets, announced a contest on Wednesday that will award the winning designer of the BID’s new logo $5,000. Here’s what they’re looking for: A new logo that reflects the Park Slope Fifth Avenue area — a

Muse Cafe & Tea (497 6th Avenue at 12th Street) officially opened their doors this past weekend, so we stopped by on Monday afternoon to take a peek. Muse has a bit more seating than Red Horse did, but all of the chairs are stool-style, so it’s probably not going to be quite as comfortable to

The restaurants and bars of 5th Avenue brought their A game to A Taste of Fifth 2014 from the Park Slope Fifth Avenue BID on Wednesday night, and as a sold out crowd descended on The Grand Prospect Hall, it quickly became apparent that organizers knocked this year’s event out of the park. We spent the evening

It looks like coffee will soon return to 410 7th Avenue (between 13th and 14th Streets). Popular Jackson Heights cafe, Espresso 77, recently signed a lease on the commercial space vacated by De Luxe in February of this year. In addition to espresso drinks from Gimme coffee and teas from Harney and Sons, owner Afzal Hossain (shown above) tells

When one door closes, another door opens. Pitas and Sticks, a “fast casual Greek grill” is on its way to the former Atomic Wings space at 321 9th Street (between 5th and 6th Avenues). Owner John Stamos (no, not that one) tells us that, in addition to a selection of draught beers, the new restaurant

We were so excited when Key Food (5th Avenue and 12th Street) opened in 2012, but lately it seems like they’re always out of food, which is problematic for a grocery store. I can’t tell you how many times we’ve walked in, only to discover that four out of the six items on our shopping

Craving a little lobster butternut squash bisque? We bring tidings of great joy! Richard Gussoff, owner of 7th Avenue’s popular pop-up restaurant, The Soup Bowl, officially opened Uncle Arthur’s Cafe, located at 237 9th Street (near 4th Avenue), this past weekend, and there are a number of tasty delights to look forward to on the menu. The new

We noticed renovations were coming along at 513 5th Avenue Food, formerly My Favorite Deli and Grocery, so we decided to stop in to the 13th Street store and check out the new digs. The interior is open and airy, with a wall for cold drinks along the side, and dry goods in the back.

Brown paper is covering the former Slope Cafe windows at 453 4th Avenue and 10th Street. The coffee shop turned Caribbean restaurant opened its doors in September of 2012, but never really seemed to find its footing in the neighborhood. Although 4th Avenue isn’t the commercial mecca that 5th has become, its proximity to the

In more 4th Avenue news, we spotted a for sale/lease sign on the closed gate to Country Boys Restaurant (located on the corner of 16th Street) Thursday morning. Opened in January of 2013, this was the first brick and mortar restaurant for the famed Red Hook food vendors, and we’re admittedly tearing up a bit at the

Lucky 7 Gourmet Deli is officially open on 4th Avenue and 11th Street. The deli is mostly made up of its food counter, selling things like bagels, sandwiches, donuts, and salads. There is also a small selection of grocery items and cold drinks. That said, Lucky 7 is awfully similar to the two existing delis on the

Looks like we’ve got some progress at the new Muse Cafe & Tea, coming soon to the former Red Horse Cafe space at 497 6th Avenue. Signage for the new cafe, which will feature coffee, tea, and Asian sandwiches, recently appeared on the side of the building, and a neighbor tells us that the owners are

If you were looking to kick it old school and have some film developed, note that 5th Avenue’s Accurate (located between 13th and 14th Streets) is on vacation, but will return on Friday, April 11. The sign says that customers can still drop their film off at the neighboring jewelry store, but we’d imagine you’re

We spotted paper over portions of G&E 99 Cents, located on 5th Avenue (between 14th and 15th Streets), so we popped in to see what was going on. An employee behind the counter said that they’re renovating the space, and though she wasn’t sure exactly what owners had planned, they’re estimating work to be finished

Bagle Bagel Factory, located on the corner of 5th Avenue and 10th Street, opened its doors on Monday, so we decided to stop by and check out the newest neighborhood addition. The new Bagel Factory is larger than its original store on 5th Avenue and 17th Street, with an extensive menu covering everything from breakfast and
