The temporary art exhibit Las Bicicletas arrived overnight at the Bartel-Pritchard Square entrance to Prospect Park, and local photographer Tom Prendergast spotted them this morning and shared these pics. First exhibited in Mexico City in 2008, artist Gilberto Aceves Navarro’s bicycle sculptures are meant to encourage people to visit all the exhibition locations by bicycle.

Nestled under a canopy of trees, and surrounded by the sleeping souls of Green-Wood, lies the quiet town of Grover’s Corners…at least for the next week, until the run of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town comes to a close on June 28. As theatrical experiences go, Green-Wood’s Our Town is definitely on the unique side. After

After spending her childhood playing the violin, South Slope neighbor Deborah Monlux began to notice her passion for the instrument was waning. “The push to perfect classical musicianship was just not in my heart,” she told us, “so I closed the case and it stayed closed for 30 years.” Little did she know, a 2010
